Red Flag Warnings Issued Monday In Western/Northwest Iowa

Fire-Danger-Index-April-15-2024

Due to dry conditions and forecasted high winds, the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued red flag warnings for much of western and northwest Iowa today (Monday). In the Carroll Broadcasting listening area, Sac, Calhoun, Crawford, and Carroll Counties, as well as most of Greene County and the northwest half of Audubon County, fall into the “Very High Risk” category. The remainder of the region still carries fire danger in the “High Risk” classification. According to the NWS, the warning begins at 11 a.m. today and expires at 7 p.m. Monday evening. Officials issue such warnings when the potential for an uncontained fire to spread out of control very quickly is severe. Currently, Harrison County is the only county in Iowa with an active burn ban in place, but fire chiefs from around the region strongly encourage residents to postpone any planned ditch or brush pile burns until conditions improve.
