Region XII Council of Governments and the Coon Rapids Development Group are hosting an open house to give homebuyers a chance to look at a new housing option available in Coon Rapids. This Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., the two organizations will be at the completed Homes for Iowa (HFI) Project house located at 704 N. 7th Ave in Coon Rapids, giving the public the first glance at the finished ranch style, three bedroom and two-bathroom home that is now for sale. The Coon Rapids Development Group purchased the lot that the house currently sits on around two years ago, tore down the original, run-down structure, and donated the lot to Region XII to provide more affordable housing through the HFI program. The HFI program works by purchasing homes from the Iowa Prison Industries (IPI), where residents from the Newton Correctional Release Facility construct the home, to be purchased by organizations like Region XII and relocated to desired permanent placement. Again, the public is invited to the open house, hosted by Region XII COG and Coon Rapids Development Group, to tour the available HFI home at 704 N. 7th Ave this Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
