Exira-EHK Elementary School recently received a $5,000 grant to provide more trees at the elementary building. The grant is funded through the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) through its Trees For Schools program, to encourage students and community members to plant trees, increasing the benefits trees provide, like purifying the air, producing oxygen, and much more. Exira-EHK Elementary will purchase 16 trees to be planted around the building and is looking for volunteers to help or provide donations. Next Tuesday, at 6:00 p.m., volunteers will gather at the school building to dig the holes to prepare for the tree planting, which will occur on Thursday at 9 a.m. Those who want to help but cannot plant the trees can consider donating five-gallon buckets, gardening gloves, and shovels for the volunteers. Those interested in donating any items or signing up to volunteer can email the high school science teacher, Andrea Schwery, at aschwery@eehkspartans.org or register using the link included below.
