A local Audubon resident is hitting a huge milestone, celebrating five decades at Southwest Iowa Real Estate Company. Lyle Hansen Jr. became a 50/50 partner of Southwest Iowa Real Estate after the passing of his father in 1974, and the other company partner was looking toward retirement. Hansen was working for Farmland Industries in the seed business and was planning to relocate to Sioux City to work at the new plant, but opportunity struck, and Hansen changed his mind.
A lot has changed in the real estate field over the past five decades, from writing all the notes on an index card to selling the same properties years later at prices ten times higher. While adjusting to the new changes, Hansen says the relationships he has built with clients over the years make it all worth it.
In the last few years, Hansen has received several awards celebrating his success, including the REALTOR Emeritus award, which is one of the highest status levels recognized by the association.
Hansen has learned a thing or two from his decade-long experiences and passes on some advice, not just to those in the real estate business but to everyone.
Hansen says that while he has slowed down a bit and is not working as much as he used to, full-time retirement is not scheduled anytime soon.
