With The Test Run For The Curb Extensions Complete, The City Of Coon Rapids Is Hosting Town Hall To Discuss Finds And Full Streetscaping Plan

This Wednesday, the city of Coon Rapids will be holding a town hall meeting to discuss the Main Street Streetscaping plans and allow for residents to provide feedback. The come and go meeting will take place at the city council chambers from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Back in 2018, a study was completed on the main street, which came the idea of a streetscaping project, but the city needed more time to prepare for the large project. The main issue needing to be addressed was storm water run-off, to avoid main street flooding during heavy rains. Other proposed ideas were to install new street lighting, provide ADA accessibility, and curb extensions to improve safety of pedestrians and to allow more amenities to be added around the downtown district. City officials decided to test the proposed curb extensions by placing traffic cones to represent the bump outs, to allow commuters and residents of the town to test the proposed idea before officially agreeing to it. This town hall meeting will allow for the city and ISG Engineering to hear concerns from community members with the testing of the bump outs and to explain the full streetscaping project. Again, the town hall meeting will be a come and go event from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Coon Rapids City Council Chambers.
