Ronald Richardson of Carroll

Ronald Floyd Richardson, age 79, of Carroll, IA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll surrounded by his wife and daughters.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, May 6, 2024 at St. John Lutheran Church in Carroll with Rev. Cindy Johnson officiating.  Music for the service will be by Jan Potthoff.  Casket bearers will be Bryce Perrien, Conner Tigges, Grant Tigges, Ben Alford, Chance Cleveland, Tyler Carlson, Nick Shelton, and Michael Riesselman.  Honorary casket bearers will be his sons-in-law: Scott Cooper, Dale Boes, and Brian Tigges.  Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 5 – 7 P.M. on Sunday evening where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M.  The casket will be moved to St. John Lutheran Church at 9:30 A.M. on Monday where visitation will resume until 10:15 A.M. prior to the service.

Ron was born on January 5, 1945 in Carroll, IA.  He was the son of Floyd and Darlene (Hart) Richardson.  He grew up in Lanesboro, IA, and graduated from Lake City High School in 1963.  He was married to JoAnn Berns on November 23, 1963 at St. John Lutheran Church near Glidden by Pastor Ronald Spears.  Ron and JoAnn lived in Des Moines while he attended the Iowa Barber College and then returned to Carroll.  Ron worked as a barber with Dave McHugh and Dick Tilton until he opened Ron’s Barber Shop in Lytton where they lived for five years.   They moved back to Carroll and Ron worked for Iowa Public Service which later became Mid-American Energy retiring in 2007.  In retirement Ron drove school bus #9 for Carroll Community Schools.  He was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church where he mowed lawn, sang in the choir, held many offices on the church council over the years, and helped his wife JoAnn with funeral luncheons.  He was a former member of the Carroll High Booster Club and a member of the Carroll RPM Club where he served as president of both. He was an avid sports fan and you could always find him cheering on the Carroll Tigers, Iowa State Cyclones, and the Kansas City Chiefs. Ron also enjoyed fishing, camping, driving his ‘57 Chevy in parades, and most of all spending time with his family.  Ron was known for always having a smile on his face and will be deeply missed by many.

Ron is survived by his wife JoAnn of 60 years of Carroll; his three daughters and their families: Michelle Cooper (Scott) of Carroll, Lisa Boes (Dale) of Breda, and Holly Tigges (Brian) of Carroll; nine grandchildren: Ashley Alford (Ben), Tiffany Wernimont, Breely Cleveland (Chance), Aly Carlson (Tyler), Hayley Shelton (Nick), Kaitlyn Riesselman (Michael), Bryce Perrien (fiancée Hannah Bolam), Conner Tigges, and Grant Tigges; his great-grandchildren: Brayton, Taylen, Emersyn, Kambryn, Anna, Olivia, Daryl, Tatum, Harper, Ryker, and Dawson; a brother Randy Richardson (Angie) of Lanesboro; a sister; Renee Fortmann (Jerry) of Lanesboro; a sister-in-law Doris Wilson of Carroll; and many other extended family members and good friends.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents Floyd and Darlene Richardson; his father and mother-in-law Conrad and Ann Berns; a brother-in-law Jerry Wilson; and a niece Kristi Wilson Tenrreiro.
