Edward Warren Vanderheiden was born on January 1, 1963, the sixth of eight children. He attended Holy Spirit grade school and graduated from Carroll High School in 1981.
Ed lived in Carroll his entire life. He worked at a number of businesses in the area and became proficient at a variety of skills, including, but not limited to bartending, painting, assembly line work, shipping, and most recently, machine embroidery at Game One, a job he took pride in doing right. He was a devoted son to his mother, Ruth, helping her around her house and yard until her death in 2014.
Ed enjoyed hunting, fishing, walking his faithful canine companion Kobe Cinnamon-Slicker, being around all his buddies, and most of all, Ed loved golf. He played in every tourney he could and golfed on several courses around the country, including in Hawaii. He was proud to claim a hole in one in 2014 at the Carroll Country Club, as well one on the 7th hole on the Municipal Golf Course in 2016, and one on the 16th hole at the Muni in 2017. It was a big bar tab, but worth every dime. His presence on the course will be missed by his golfing buddies.
Ed is survived by his siblings Ann (Patrick) McAlister of Bayard, Beverly (Gordon) Miller of Storm Lake, Cynthia (Darren) Hudson of Wittman, Arizona, Duane (Kathy Spindler) Vanderheiden of Omaha, and Gary (Julie) Vanderheiden of Caldas da Rainha, Portugal, brother-in-law Jim Steinkamp of Carroll, fourteen nieces and nephews, twenty-five great nieces and nephews, numerous cousins, aunts Marie Sextro and Dora Sextro, uncles Warren Meier, Richard Vanderheiden, Michael (Marlene) Vanderheiden, and Patrick Vanderheiden, and many friends.
