During Monday’s meeting, the Carroll Community School District’s Board of Education shared some different views on wage increases and the benefits package, specifically for administrative staff. The members reviewed the proposal for non-bargaining wage increases for custodial, administration, directors, and other positions, and the proposed package increases with health insurance, FICA, and IPERS when applicable. Board member Jim Friel questioned the wage increases for administrators, directors, and other professional staff, excluding the superintendent, when the district pays for the total premiums of that category of staff’s health insurance to try and lower the costs for the district. Other board members chimed in, stating that changing anything for this year would go against negotiations already set for the following school year and how the staff now have a choice in insurance packages instead of just accepting the only plan one offered. Other items include approving a donation from Edward Jones’s office in Carroll for a food truck to provide lunch for teachers and staff during Teacher Appreciation Week at the Carroll Middle School and approving starting and substitute pay along with schedule “C” supplementary salaries for extracurricular activities. More details on these topics will be provided in upcoming newscasts.
