The Carroll County Recycling Center is investigating a possible switch in its sorting protocols that may make recycling easier for customers, haulers, and landfill staff. According to District 1 Supervisor Scott Johnson, who sits on the Carroll County Landfill and Solid Waste Commission, the recycling center currently uses a multi-stream system and is considering a change to single-stream.
It is unclear how much the transition would cost, but Johnson says the price may be worth it, considering when you account for the many benefits of a single-stream system.
He adds it would also simplify sorting and storing recyclables for customers. The local center has not committed to making the transition, but the commission is planning a tour of a recycling center in Grimes next week to see firsthand how the system functions. Johnson made his comments during the May 6 Carroll County Board of Supervisors meeting.
