Two drivers sustained serious injuries following a head-on collision over the weekend east of Coon Rapids. According to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at approximately 3:02 p.m. on Sunday near the Union Township Cemetery entrance. Authorities say 65-year-old Mary Evelyn Schwaller of Coon Rapids was traveling eastbound on 330th Street in a 2021 Toyota Venza SUV. Schwaller attempted to make a left-hand turn into the Union Township Cemetery drive and traveled into the path of a westbound 2006 Nissan Xterra, operated by 55-year-old Roberta Lee Smith of Coon Rapids, resulting in a head-on collision. The vehicles came to rest in the ditch west of the cemetery entrance. Schwaller and Smith were both transported to St. Anthony Regional Hospital for treatment by Carroll County Emergency Medical Services. Damage was estimated at $30,000 to the Schwaller SUV and $10,00 to the Smith Nissan. Schwaller was cited for failure to yield on a left turn.
