JoAnn Marie Haskins, daughter of Marie and Oral Anderson, was born at their family farm on May 8, 1949, and died at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake, Iowa, on May 15, 2024, at the age of 78.
JoAnn attended country school in Fiscus and then attended Audubon Community Schools. She later obtained her GED in 1979. On May 12, 1963, JoAnn married the love of her life, Alan Haskins, at the Ross Evangelical Church in Ross, IA. They were blessed with two children, Troy and Shelly.
JoAnn worked odd jobs before starting at Audubon County Memorial Hospital in the dietary department, where she worked until her retirement in 2012. After retirement, JoAnn and Alan enjoyed traveling to the Black Hills, Cape Cod, North Carolina, and Hawaii.
Joann enjoyed NASCAR, but only when Earnhardt’s won. She also enjoyed watching Iowa Hawkeye Football with her family, even though she didn’t fully understand the game. She always knew when it was time to bring out the Hawkeye gear. Many remember JoAnn as the sweetest person. Even if you didn’t get much for your birthday, you could count on getting a card from her. She always enjoyed cooking and baking. Growing up, she would test her Home Ec recipes for her siblings. JoAnn was well known for her peanut butter blossom cookies, in a glass jar in the freezer. She loved spending free time with family and grew a special relationship with her great-granddaughter, Scarlett. JoAnn was also known to be the one not being able to make the decisions and often relied on Jan. Because “If she did, she would”, especially when it came to the BV and Coke.
JoAnn was welcomed into Heaven by her husband of 51 years, Alan; her son, Troy Haskins; parents, Oral and Lorraine Anderson; mother and father-in-law, Dallas and Marie Haskins; brother, Larry Anderson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Sandra (Lee) Chambers, Barb Fairchild, Lynn Peterson, Dallas (Glenda) Haskins; granddaughter-in-law, Sarah Jensen; nephew, Matt Borkowski; niece, Cindy Chambers.
Those to left to cherish her memory, daughter Shelly (Mike) Jensen; grandchildren, Lindsay (Jason) Parker, and Joshua Jensen; her treasured great-granddaughter, Scarlett Parker; siblings Jan (LaVern) Jensen, Dee Knight, Bev (Terri) Richter, James (Joy) Anderson, Nancy (Dwight) Huffman; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jackie Peterson, Sherri Payne, Michael Haskins; and many nieces and nephews.
Public visitation with the family will be held on Sunday, May 19, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Schmidt-Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, IA.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 20, 2024, at the First United Methodist Church in Audubon, IA, with Pastor Lori Shannon officiating. Following the funeral, interment will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery. A luncheon will be held following the committal in the reception hall of the First United Methodist Church.
