Four area fire departments responded to a rural barn fire near Halbur yesterday (Sunday) afternoon. At approximately 4:10 p.m., the Halbur Fire Department responded to the 15000 block of 250th Street in response to the reported fire. According to Halbur Fire Chief Matt Leonard, crews found the barn burning with flames visible through the roof. The Halbur Fire Department, with assistance from the Manning, Arcadia, and Templeton Fire Departments, was on the scene for several hours and extinguished the blaze. Damage to the structure was severe, but it was still standing when crews cleared the site. An initial investigation into the cause of the fire found embers from a nearby burn pile had drifted on the wind and ignited the barn. Carroll County Emergency Medical Services also assisted at the scene Sunday afternoon.
