Carroll County District 5 Supervisor Cindy Scaturico has announced she will resign her position on the board of supervisors effective June 14. Scaturico took office in 2023 after winning a special election following the resignation of then-District 5 Supervisor Rich Ruggles. She had previously announced in March that she was not seeking re-election in November. Scaturico says she is proud of her service to Carroll County, particularly her efforts to reestablish the county’s safety committee and budgetary oversight, but her term must come to an end early due to a planned move back to her home state of Virginia. The board of supervisors indicated they are hesitant to hold a special election to fill the vacancy with less than six months until the Nov. 5 General Elections. Scaturico’s replacement will likely be filled by appointment, and the County Auditor, Recorder, and Treasurer will determine who that individual will be. It is unclear when that appointment will be made, but county officials are slated to meet soon to determine a timeline.
