Donald Miller of Dedham

Donald Miller, age 87, of Dedham, died Saturday, May 25, 2024 at his home in Dedham.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 on Monday, June 3, 2024 at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dedham, Iowa. The Celebrant will be Father Merlin Schrad, assisted by Deacon Louis Meiners.  Concelebrant will be Father Andrew Hoffman. Music will be provided by organist, Cindy Bauer and the St. Joseph’s Choir. Gift Bearers will be Jenn Ewalt and Jess Finley.  Lector and Eucharistic Minister will be Julie Greving.  Casket Bearers will be Jason Eischeid, Corey Eischeid, Luke Neuman, Brandon Thompson, Matt Miller, Charlie Legge and Chris Legge.  Burial will be at Sunny Hill Cemetery in Grimes, Iowa with military honors conducted by the Dedham American Legion.

Visitation will be at Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll on Sunday, June 2, 2024 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 5:00 p.m.  Additional visitation will be from 9-9:45 a.m. on Monday at the church.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be left at the funeral home or the church for the Dedham American Legion.

Donald was born on January 28,1937 at Red Oak, Iowa to Ralph and Wilma Miller. After graduating Stuart High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1958.

He married Shirley Partlow and to this union 4 children were born. Shirley passed away in 2004.

In 2007, Donald married Kate Hoffmann and they made their home in Dedham, Iowa.  Donald was active in the American Legion serving as a past Dedham American Legion Commander, Carroll County Adjutant, Carroll County Chaplain, current Dedham Legion Chaplain and was serving on the Dedham Legion Honor Guard. In 2023, he was selected and went on the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. Donald was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed collecting memorabilia.

Donald is survived by his wife, Kate; 2 children: Rick (Colene) of Florida and Susan Legge of Grimes. 7 grandchildren, 6 great- grandchildren and a sister, Marsha Shell of Arkansas.

Stepchildren: Sharon (Ronny) Eischeid of Carroll, Donald Hoffmann of Carroll, Mary Thompson of Ankeny, Wanda Neuman of Omaha and Dale (Erin) Hoffmann of Altoona; 9 step-grandchildren and 8 step-great-grandchildren.

Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; daughter Linda (Lee) Schulz and son Rodney Miller; parents Ralph and Wilma; siblings: brother David Miller, sister Norine (Dave) Wright and 1 great-grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Dedham American Legion or St. Joseph Catholic Church.
