The Stewart Memorial Community Hospital (SMCH) in Lake City is offering a new learning summer camp with the hospital’s Therapy Services Department. The program will be led by Marie Drey, licensed and registered Occupational Therapist (OTR)/L) and Courtney Schreck, Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (MA, CCC-SLP), where kids ages two through nine will participate in various activities, learning the importance of cognitive and physical skills. Children will engage in sensory obstacle courses, crafts for fine motor skills, music activities for sensory play and language development. Other events include scavenger hunts for problem-solving and teamwork skills, free play to build social skills, gross and upper body motor skills activities. Participants will also be served snacks during the one-hour camp to help maintain energy. The first camp is for the two through four-year-olds on June 3,4,5, and 7 from 10:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. The next age division will be ages five through seven on July 15,16,17, and 19 from 1:45 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. The last group, eight- and nine-year-olds, will be on July 29, 30, 31, and Aug. 2 from 1:45 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. The camps are open to the public, and the number of spots is limited. The cost is $40 per session, and scholarships are available upon request. Contact SMCH Therapy Services at 712-464-4244 and ask for Drey or Schreck to register. SMCH Therapy Services Department is very excited to be able to offer this opportunity to the youth in Lake City and surrounding communities.
