The Glidden City Council approved the purchase of a new pump tank truck for the Glidden Fire Department during its meeting on Tuesday. City Administrator Brooke Peterson says it has been discussed before about purchasing a new truck, but with the current vehicle continuously needing work done to it, the purchase needed to be made sooner rather than later.
The cost of the new fire vehicle was around $527,000, but Peterson says a good portion of that dollar amount has been raised already.
While the purchase will be made here soon, due to the complexity of the chassis or frame, the truck will not be delivered to the Glidden Fire Department for around two and a half years. Peterson says while the crew waits for the new vehicle, maintenance work will continue on the old truck, in hopes it has a few years of work left in it.
