Her Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, June 8, 2024, at The Church of the Sacred Heart. Burial will be at 1:30 P.M. Saturday at the Mount Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.

Jan was born on September 4, 1937, to Joseph and Rose (Wilberding) Wittry in Carroll, IA. She attended Kuemper Catholic High School, where she was the salutatorian of her class and proudly claimed to be the Class of 1955 Betty Crocker Homemaker of the Year! Jan pursued her passion for caring by earning a Registered Nursing Degree from St. Anthony School of Nursing and worked in various clinical, hospital, and school settings.

On December 27, 1958, Jan married her lifelong sweetheart, Ralph Kanne, whom she had known since kindergarten. They were married at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Carroll by Bishop Frank H. Greteman. Jan’s first love was Ralph, and she was a devoted wife, supporting him in his career and creating a loving home for their growing family in Carroll, Clear Lake, Indianola, and Boone.

Jan was a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a loving, caring, and supportive woman whose intelligence and warmth touched everyone around her. Known for her competitive spirit in cards and her infectious laughter, Jan never met a stranger and made everyone feel important. She was generous, kind, adventurous, and known for her spiciness and sassiness, qualities that endeared her to all who knew her.

Jan was a member of The Church of the Sacred Heart in Boone, the Lowell Club, the Boone Golf and Country Club, and she treasured her morning coffee friends and bridge partners.

This wonderful, compassionate woman will be deeply missed by her children, Roxanne Kanne-Roush (Kent) of Grimes, Jayne (Randy) Welch of Urbandale, and Michael (Joy) Kanne of Austin, MN; her grandchildren, Anne (Bret) Spurgin of Charles City, Kristine (Eric) Anderson of Urbandale, Maddison (Robert) LeWarne of West Des Moines, Erika Welch of Des Moines, Charles Kanne of New York, NY, and Ellen Kanne of Austin, MN; her great-grandchildren, Blaise Thomas Anderson, Reece Anthony LeWarne, Parker Rose Anderson, Rylee Jo Spurgin and Scarlett Jayne LeWarne; and her brother, Lyle (Cynthia) Wittry of Springdale, AR.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, in 2020; her parents, Joseph and Rose Wittry; and her brother, Marvin Wittry.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone.  Online condolences may be left to Jan’s family at www.schroedermemorialchapel.com.
