Lyle “Speed” Dirkx, age 86, of Carroll, IA, passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at Journey Senior Services in Carroll.
     Funeral service will be held at 4 P.M. on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll with Chaplain Peg Scheidt officiating.  Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll at a later date.
   Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 2:30 – 3:45 P.M. on Saturday prior to the service.

     Speed, as he was affectionately known to most, was born on April 17, 1938, in Carroll, IA.  He was the son of Raymond and Francis (Wuebker) Dirkx.  He grew up in Templeton and graduated from Templeton High School in 1956.   On January 6, 1962, he was united in marriage to Mary Kay Conley at St. Jospeh’s Catholic Church in Carroll.  Speed worked for L.A. Smith Company for over 40 years.  He enjoyed his grandchildren and growing his beautiful gardens.  He loved attending all of his grandchildren’s ball games.  He was an avid Carroll Tigers, Iowa Hawkeyes, and Washington Redskins fan.
     Speed is survived by his children and their families: son John Dirkx (Pam Soyer) of Carroll, daughter Kim Riesselman (Bill) of Halbur, son Bob Dirkx of Carroll, daughter Karmen Rotert (Joe) of Omaha, and son Shaun Dirkx (Heather) of Grundy Center; twelve grandchildren: Cameron Dirkx, Matt Riesselman (Alma), Michael Riesselman (Kaitlyn), Morgan Ellis (Jordan), Cody Rotert (Marysol), Connor Rotert, Molly Hoffman (Cole), twins: Zachary and Chase Dirkx, Lucas Dirkx, Arianna Dirkx and Julianna Dirkx; eight great-grandchildren: Luna, Ryker, Max, Dawson, Leo, Oden, Oliver, and Liam; brother Robert Dirkx (Carol) of Carroll; two sisters: Maxine Goetzinger of Roselle, Cleo Wiskus of Exira; a sister-in-law Marlene Dirkx of El Paso, TX; three brothers-in-law: Joe Conley (Barb) of California, George Conley (Jean) of Waukee, and Richard Conley (Sandy) Wisconsin; and several nieces and nephews.
    Lyle was preceded in death by his wife Mary Kay Dirkx 2022; his parents Raymond and Francis Dirkx; father and mother-in-law George and Mary Conley; a sister Wanita Schroeder (Raymond); and three brothers: Marcellas Dirkx, Merle Dirks, and Dave Dirkx.
