The Carroll Community School District Board Of Education Continued On With Their Board Development, Inviting School Administrators To Participate

The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education attended a board development workshop on Monday evening with school administrators. Board Development Director for Iowa Association of School Boards (IASB) Lou Ann Gvist reminded the board of what was discussed during the last meeting, having that governance mindset, using the analogy of “steering the boat.” At the same time, the superintendent is in the management role, “rowing the boat.” The board collaborated with the principals and superintendent on setting the district’s long-term goals and broadly planned out what the school board, central office, principals, and teachers needed to do to make progress on the priorities set by the board. The three main goals the district wants to focus on are student achievements or academic goals, building stronger community development to enable productive graduates, and supporting a growing facility that is strong financially. The members did not go into detail about creating a plan to implement the goals, as they wanted teachers’ input before establishing the guidelines. The Board of Education will continue to meet throughout the summer to work on finalizing the goals and establishing the process of how to achieve them.
