Gary Troutman of Coon Rapids

Gary Ralph Troutman, age 83, of Coon Rapids, IA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at Kavanaugh House Hospice in Des Moines.
    Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at First United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids with Rev. Bobbi Maltas officiating.  Music for the service will be by Cindy Seastrom and Dakota Andersen.  Casket bearers will be Marty Simpson, Trent Simpson, Nick Simpson, Pug Starcevich, Kyle Starcevich, Luke Starcevich, Shane Starcevich, Kevin Andersen, and Chris Naylor.  Burial will be in the Union Township Cemetery near Coon Rapids with military honors conducted by the Dedham American Legion.
     Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids from 5 – 7 P.M. on Tuesday.  The casket will be moved to the First United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids at 9:30 A.M. on Wednesday where visitation will resume until 10:15 A.M. prior to the service.

     Gary was born on March 30, 1941 on his family’s farm near Coon Rapids.  He was the son of Bill and Jennie (Noland) Troutman. He grew up on the farm and graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1959.  Following high school, Gary enlisted in the United States Air Force and proudly served four years stationed in Laredo, TX, where he met Irma Gutierrez.  They dated until their double wedding with Irma’s sister on April 5, 1963.  Upon Gary’s honorable discharge from the Air Force, the couple moved back Coon Rapids where they raised their three daughters.  Irma passed away in 1996 and he was later remarried to Audrey Andersen.  He was employed by the Garst and Thomas Seed Company for 42 years as the Sizing Supervisor retiring in 2005.  Gary enjoyed woodworking, mowing his lawn, watching NASCAR, television and movies, going out to eat with his brother-in-law Butch Golwitzer, and mostly spending time with his family.
     Gary is survived by his three daughters and their families: Deb Starcevich (Pug) of Altoona, Denise Simpson (Marty) of Des Moines, and Dawn Buhr of Des Moines; five grandsons: Trent Simpson (Ali), Kyle Starcevich (Meg), Luke Starcevich (Tori), Nick Simpson (fiancée Susie Gaul), and Shane Starcevich; two great-grandsons: Rudy and Taye, and one on the way; two sisters: Peggy Eason (Bob) of Scranton and Mary Muench (Merle) of Hastings, MN; a brother Dave Troutman (Roxanne) of Yale, IA, a sister-in-law Beth Troutman of Dedham; his lifelong friend and brother-in-law Butch Golwitzer of Dedham; and many nieces and nephews.
     Gary is also survived by Audrey’s family: Karla Naylor (Chris) of Scranton and Kevin Andersen of Fairfield, IA; five grandchildren: Alisha Lauffer (Courtney), Jenny Rohrbeck (Tyler), Nicole Bills (Bob), Wyatt Anderson, and Dakota Anderson; and eight great-grandchildren: Bristol, Landon, Colton, Alexa, Adam, Ryan, Macy, and Kate.
     Gary was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Jennie Troutman; his father and mother-in-law Tomas and Enriqueta Gutierrez; two sisters: Janice Fryman and Carol Golwitzer; two brothers: Larry Troutman and Mike Troutman; son-in-law David Buhr; his wife Irma; and his wife Audrey.
