Carroll County officials announced yesterday (Monday) their intent to appoint a replacement to fill a vacancy on the board of supervisors rather than hold a special election. District 5 Supervisor Cindy Scaturico announced last month she would be stepping down from her position effective June 14, less than five months until the November General Election. Under Iowa Code, the Carroll Auditor, Recorder, and Treasurer are tasked with determining how the vacancy would be filled and resolved during a meeting on Monday that an appointment would make the most sense with so little time before the next scheduled vote. The interim supervisor will be sworn in no later than July 1 and will be replaced by the winner of the Nov. 5 election for the seat once results are canvassed. Those interested in serving on the board temporarily are asked to submit applications, including a cover letter, resume, letters of reference, and a brief questionnaire, which is included with this story on our website. Applications are due no later than 4:30 p.m. on June 21 and can be delivered in person or by mail to the Carroll County Auditor’s Office. Carroll County voters have the right to request a special election to fill the vacancy, but that would require a petition with at least 786 signatures to be delivered to the county auditor by June 25 or within 14 days of the appointment.
