The Carroll County Board of Supervisors has approved plans for substantial roadwork planned for later this year in southwestern Carroll County. County Engineer Zac Andersen says this is the first phase of a shouldering and resurfacing project on M66, also known as Birch Avenue, south of Manning.
The start date for construction will be determined after bids are let, which is slated for July 18. Only the grading portion is planned in this phase, which should be completed by Oct. 15 of this year. Andersen says motorists should expect detours once work begins.
The resurfacing phase will be completed in 2025, and there will be another round of closures and detours next summer, too. Andersen says the joint project with Audubon County, the intersection overhaul at Birch Avenue and 340th Street, is happening concurrently.
Eighty percent of that project is funded through the State of Iowa’s Revitalize Iowa’s Sound Economy (RISE) grant program. The remaining 20 percent is split between the counties, with Carroll County’s portion around $15,000. That intersection is located just west of the Puck Custom Enterprises site and sees significant truck traffic, making it eligible for RISE funding. Construction at that site is also scheduled for this summer.
