The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education met at the CHS Media Center Monday evening for an almost four-hour long board meeting, with multiple quotes, updates on transportation facility and three presentations throughout this duration. The meeting opened with Piper Sandler, who will be serving as the financial advisor and underwriter for the bond for the construction of the transportation facility. The district has decided to table the agreement with the financial institution while waiting for more information on different scenarios the members could agree upon before making any decisions on an agreement. The board did approve setting the public hearing for the district to enter into a bond agreement NOT to exceed $16 million but has yet to make any formal decisions on how much the district will bond or borrow or what design plan they will take. The timeline for the transportation facility has also been changed from the original schedule for an approximate eight-week shift to allow for more time during the bidding phase to receive any bids and for the board to make a final decision. The public hearing has been scheduled during the July 15 regular board meeting. Presentations from the iJAG program, spring testing data assessments, and Board member Jill Johnson’s take from the Student Summit Conference she recently attended. Seven quotes were reviewed and approved by the board: $15,251 for Ready-To-Teach Science Kits, $63,904 for Clevertouch devices for the elementary schools, $128,250 for 450-Dell Chromebooks, $53,890 to repave Fairview Elementary parking lot (Adam’s is being waited on until next year to start a rotation), $81,200 to upgrade the HVAC system at the high school, one-year online learning resource Edgenuity renewal for $21,037 and food service quote for milk and bread. The board members approved a Memorandum of Understanding between the district and Latinos In Action, which will create a year-long elective course where students focus only on building a solid community with Latinos and tutoring younger students in English Language Learner (ELL) and English as Second Language (ESL). The board finished the meeting by approving hiring a Transition Alliance Program (TAP) specialist to serve as a paraprofessional for the program, seeking bids for two mid-sized vehicles, disposing of an additional bus, and financing a report from the business office. The CCSD Board of Education will meet on June 28 for a special meeting for End of Fiscal Year 2024 bills. That meeting will take place at noon at Adam’s Elementary School. Carroll Broadcasting will bring you more details on the transportation facility and more in upcoming newscasts.
