Region XII Council of Governments and the City of Odebolt have established an agreement for a possible Homes for Iowa project to be constructed in the town by the spring of next year. During the last city council meeting, members agreed to have the city be responsible for clearing the existing, dilapidated house at 412 S. Main St. and maintaining the lot until the single-family house’s construction has started. The council members also approved waiving any building permit and utility hookup fees, installing service lines from the water main and sidewalks, and providing $7,500 in a local match for the project split between two fiscal years. By doing this, the city is offsetting the construction cost of the new home, which can then be offered to purchasers for a lower price. The City of Odebolt hopes to resolve a high need in Sac County by providing more affordable, single-family houses and retaining residents, workforce, and families for the city.
