Three Carroll men were taken into custody on multiple charges following a fight occurring in the middle of the road on 210th Street south of Carroll on Wednesday afternoon. According to Carroll Police reports, at approximately 2:05 p.m., 20-year-old Aven Vandenburg, 21-year-old David Ayala, and 20-year-old Damarius Billmeier were allegedly engaged in a physical altercation with each other due to apparent reports of insults directed at Billmeier’s girlfriend. Officers arrived at the scene of 22715 210th St. in an access driveway, where law enforcement observed the individuals with injuries, such as bleeding and swelling to their faces and an odor of alcohol. Vandenburg was detained, and Carroll County Emergency Medical Services was called for the injuries. Vandenburg declined medical assistance and was transported to Carroll County Jail on a charge of assault. During transportation, Vandenburg kicked the squad car’s rear driver’s side door window, resulting in the glass window coming off the track, portions of the trim missing, and a damaged door. Vandenburg submitted to a preliminary breath test (PBT) with a blood alcohol concentration of .083. Ayala and Billmeier were treated for injuries and then also transported to Carroll County Jail, where PBT tests were administered. Ayala had a BAC of .137 and Billmeier of .087. All individuals are charged with public intoxication, a simple misdemeanor, plus additional charges. Billmeier and Ayala face disorderly conduct-fighting, a simple misdemeanor, while Vandenburg and also Billmeier are charged with assault with intent to cause serious injury, an aggravated misdemeanor. Vandenburg is also being charged with third-degree criminal mischief, an aggravated misdemeanor, for the damage done to the police vehicle.
