The shelter house in Carroll’s Northwest Park is closed to the public until further notice due to a lightning-caused fire early this (Saturday) morning. According to City of Carroll officials, the Carroll Fire Department was dispatched to Northwest Park at approximately 4:43 a.m. in response to the structure fire. Upon arrival, firefighters found the shelter house’s western side burning. Crews were able to extinguish to blaze, but there was extensive damage reported to the roof, deck, and underlying support structures. The park remains open, but the public is asked to avoid the area surrounding the damaged shelter house until repairs are completed.
