Local Shooting Teams Take Top Spots At State SASP Meet Over The Weekend

Several local teams from the Carroll Action Shooting Sports (CASS) program took first place in the 2024 Scholastic Action Shooting State Program (SASP) Championships this past weekend. The state meet was held June 22 and 23 at the Olofson Range in Polk City. Participants are separated into categories based on experience and shooting discipline. In the Senior Iron Rifle Division, Quinten Polking, Jaydon Flug, Jack Osterlund, and Kieran Polking took first place with a combined time of 183.69 seconds. In Senior Iron Pistol, Wyatt Snyder, Lucas Reising, Kaisen Stypa, and Colin Onken topped the podium with 213.33 seconds. In Optics Pistol, Kaisen Stypa, Kohen Stypa, Ethan Pottebaum, and Colin Onken finished in first with 190.51 seconds. In the Open Iron Rifle Division, Porter Snyder, Kavin Flug, Jake Wieland, and Trent Pevestorf took first with 185.15 seconds, and Annalee Wittrock, Jaydon Flug, Kavin Flug, and Jake Stork placed first in the Senior Optics Rifle Division. In the Intermediate Division, Wyatt Venner, Henry Osterlund, Evan Snyder, and Anthony Vonnahme placed first in Optics Rifle at 215.73 seconds, while Henry Osterlund, Evan Snyder, Wyatt Venner, and Trent Pevestorf took first in Iron Pistol with 296.41 seconds. The Iowa Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP) is a youth development initiative that emphasizes teamwork and uses pistols, rifles, and steel targets to teach Iowa’s youth essential life skills. These include discipline, safety, teamwork, ethics, mental focus, and self-confidence. The top male and female performers from the state meet are expected to be announced later this week.
