Gov. Kim Reynolds Has Extended The Disaster Proclamation For Three Iowa Counties With Confirmed Bird Flu In Flocks

Iowa Gov Kim Reynolds announced today (Wednesday) the extension of the disaster proclamation for three Iowa counties with confirmed cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI). Sac, Cherokee, and Sioux counties can continue to access state resources from the Iowa Homeland Security, the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, and other agencies to aid in tracking and monitoring, rapid detection, containment, disposal, and disinfection. The proclamation also waives regulatory provisions for commercial vehicles responding to the affected sites. The extension now runs through July 26. HPAI detection in birds does not present an immediate public health concern, and it remains safe to eat poultry products. Producers who suspect signs of HPAI in their flocks are advised to contact their veterinarian immediately. Symptoms in birds include sudden deaths, decreased egg production, and respiratory issues. For more information or to report suspected cases, contact the Iowa Department of Agriculture at 515-281-5305.
