The highlight of the summer season in Lake City, the Top Rail Saddle Club’s Western Days Rodeo, returns to town this weekend for its 65th annual event. Top Rail member Nancy Janssen says they’ll kick off the fun tomorrow (Friday) night.
Saturday is Western Days’ busiest schedule, with breakfast from the Lohrville Lions Club starting at 8 a.m. on the square, the Stewart Memorial Community Hospital (SMCH) Fun Run at 8:30 a.m., and a vendor show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Western Days Kiddie Parade begins at noon at the town square, with the main parade starting at 1:30 p.m. Rodeo programming begins at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Top Rail Saddle Club grounds. Janssen says they work hard to keep admission prices low so that cost does not deter fans from coming.
Janssen adds it wouldn’t be Western Days without the Saturday evening fireworks after the rodeo, and that spectacle is returning this year.
Sunday’s schedule includes a community breakfast at the club grounds starting at 9 a.m., followed by community worship at 11 a.m. Another round of rodeo fun is scheduled for Sunday night, beginning at 6 p.m. The Western Days Rodeo and festivities run from Friday, June 28, through Sunday, June 30.
