ABI Survey Shows Iowa Businesses Cautiously Optimistic About 2024 Q3

A recent survey from the Iowa Association of Business and Industry (ABI) shows Iowa companies are expecting to maintain sales and staffing levels in the year’s third quarter despite national economic headwinds. The survey, conducted in mid-June, reflects cautious optimism among Iowa businesses. Sixty percent of respondents expect sales to remain stable, 57 percent plan capital expenditures, 85 percent expect employee numbers to stay the same, and over 50 percent are neutral about the overall economy going into Q3. While there is cautious optimism, respondents cited persistent high costs, overhead expenses, delays in customer spending, and increased competition as significant challenges. Concerns about the cost of inputs and an unfavorable business climate, both domestically and globally, also persist. ABI President Mike Ralston says, “Iowa businesses and ABI members are facing complex challenges, from political and economic uncertainties to specific industry issues. Despite these hurdles, they’re demonstrating adaptability and strategic planning to ensure long-term success. Election years always bring unpredictability, and this year is no different. Our members look forward to focusing on growth and stability in their businesses.” A link to the ABI website, where previous survey results can be found, is included below.
