City Of Exira Kicks Off Its 159th Year Of Famous Fourth Of July Celebration This Upcoming Week

With the Independence Day holiday next week, the City of Exira is ready for its 159th Fourth of July Celebration. The five-day event begins next Wednesday and lasts through Sunday, with fun for the entire family. The Exira Community Club is the organization behind the tradition, and Community Club President Abby Rasmussen says this year’s theme is Reflections, wanting to note how far the event has developed over the years and the City of Exira itself.

Events kick off on Wednesday July 3, with Scott’s Amusement Rides starting at 5:00 p.m., along with the Community Club beer garden, BBQ and entertainment at City Park. The street dance by TJ’s Pourhouse will finish the night with live entertainment from “Chasing Nickel” until midnight. Rasmussen says July 4 is the busiest day, with a crowd-favorite, the parade at 10:30 a.m., with more fun in the City Park after that.

Friday through Sunday features popular events such as the farmer’s market, Fun Run, 5K or 10K, Mason’s breakfast, co-ed softball tournament, and church service with alumni coffee and lunch. Rasmussen wants to give a huge thank you to all the volunteers and sponsors who help make this event possible every year.
