Iowa 511 Will Now Include County Road Closures During Large Weather Events

iowa-511-new-logo-2021

Due to the recent flooding happening in most of Northwestern Iowa, causing many roads to be impassable, the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) has added a new feature for county road closures on the 511 website. Previously, the website was just used to provide up-to-date traffic information for interstates and state highways. The new feature will notify travelers of road closures for counties participating in the Iowa County Engineer’s Association’s 511, which includes all counties in the listening area, except for Carroll County, during large-scale events such as flooding and winter weather that cause unsafe traveling conditions. To find the county information on 511ia.org, click the “county closures” layer on the map display, which will appear in blue. Currently, county road closures are only available on the website and are being developed to be included on the 511ia app soon.
