John Anthony Lenz (Jay) was born August 28, 1937. His parents were Paul and Margie Lenz. Jay was the oldest of 9 children. All grew up on a farm north of Carroll, IA. His growing up years were spent helping out on the farm. He followed his dad’s line of work-heavy equipment operator. Jay spent 2 years in the U.S. Army. Part of that time was spent in Korea removing a bridge along the demilitarized zone. In 1965 he decided to move to California where he found work at Burris Sand & Gravel. He continued his career with Sully-Miller and retired from Excel Paving.
Jay married D. Elaine Upward (Ellie) in 1966. They made their home in Anaheim, CA. Jay was very active in the local Little League and the Katella High School Wrestling Boosters. He was a fan of the LA Angels of Anaheim and never missed a game on television. He enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Ellie Lenz; his four children, Robin (Brett), Andy (Shari), Russell (Cathey), and Aaron (Nancy) and five grandchildren: Rachel, Riley, Jared, Bryce, and Kalena. Preceding him in death are his parents Paul & Margie Lenz, brother Larry Lenz, sister Joan McGuire, brother-in-law John McGuire, sister-in-law Jean Lenz, brother-in-law Charlie Burkhaulter, and nephew Ryan Lenz.
The funeral Mass will be held at St. Anthony Mary Claret Catholic Church in Anaheim, California. Date and time are pending.
Jay will be interred with military honors at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, California.
