A Manning native recently received the Dr. Delores Etter Award for excellence in science from the Department of the U.S Navy. Clinton Stammer has contributed two decades of service to the F-35 Lightning II Joint Program Office (JPO) as the electronic attack and countermeasures lead, helping to improve the advancements on what is claimed to be the world’s most advanced fighter jet. Stammer was selected for the individual scientist category for his contributions to the critical technological advancements for the F-35 JPO, specifically “the increase of survivability of the F-35, for increased mission success for the fleet and allied partners”. Stammer and many other scientists and engineers were honored last month during the awards ceremony at the Pentagon Auditorium in Washington, D.C. After the ceremony, Stammer said he felt incredibly humbled by this opportunity, saying “We are really doing the impossible. I come into work and am surrounded by some of the smartest people in the world. What we’re doing is literally going to save lives.” Stammer’s wife, Tanya Stammer was in the audience, while many of his family hosted a watch party, watching the ceremony’s live stream. Stammer continues his work as a lead for his team in the JPO through the Jamming and Countermeasure Center for the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division, as his passion and commitment to his job to ensure a warfighter can come home to their family at the end of the day, is never-ending.
