St. Anthony Nursing Home recently celebrated the purchase of a wheelchair-accessible bus for its residents and tenants. Chaplain and Spiritual Care Director Angelo Luis, alongside a committee of dedicated volunteers, led a year-long fundraising effort that included a marathon, car wash, lucky duck drawing, bake sale, and generous contributions from the Carroll County Foundation. Luis says, “There was a constant challenge in securing suitable transportation for outings and other special events for our seniors. This bus allows our residents and tenants to enjoy social events, ice cream outings, and scenic cruises around Iowa’s countryside.” The fundraising team met their fundraising goal on Monday, July 1, and the new bus was driven to St. Anthony Nursing Home by Chaplain Angelo, greeted with applause by senior residents, staff, and donors. The celebration featured a short program honoring the generosity that made this achievement possible, followed by cookies and tours of the new bus. Father Merlin Schrad concluded the event with a blessing of the bus. Photos are included below.
