Carroll County Supervisors To Discuss Changes To Compensation Board At Monday’s Meeting

The Carroll County Board of Supervisors will consider changes to the county’s compensation board during its meeting on Monday. Gov. Kim Reynolds signed a bill, Senate File (SF) 2442, during the 2024 Iowa Legislative Session that eliminates the state requirement for counties to have a compensation board to help determine pay for elected officials. Compensation boards have proven challenging for many counties, as supervisors are bound to adjust elected officials’ salaries evenly based on a compensation board’s recommendation, which has led to artificially inflated recommendations for wage increases in recent years. Under the new law, counties can still utilize a compensation board, but they will operate under a new set of guidelines. The supervisors will discuss what that may look like during their meeting on Monday. Other items on the Monday, July 8, agenda include the Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 salary resolution, secondary roads reports, a maintenance agreement with Drees Co., and annual committee assignments. The board convenes at 9 a.m. at the Carroll County Courthouse, and the meeting is open to the public.
