Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig toured the Carroll County Fair yesterday (Thursday), interacting with FFA and 4H members and viewing the new amenities and features that continue to improve and grow the Carroll County Fair. Former Board President and current Board Treasurer Jim Mohr, along with Board member Brian Sander and Secretary Britt Sander, joined Naig touring through the exhibit hall, a view of the figure eight track and, of course, the animal barns. Naig asked about the origin of each building and the updates in the last few years and was amazed at all the work the fair board has put into maintaining and improving the fairgrounds.

While touring the facility, Naig stopped to chat with some FFA and 4H members, asking about their experiences and how excited they were to be showing at the Carroll County Fair. Naig was very impressed when Mohr said there were 29 entries this year for bottle and bucket calves, the highest number seen in a while. Naig encourages all youth to participate in one or both agricultural programs to gain skills and knowledge to use in the future.

The same day, Naig visited the Calhoun County Expo, Cogdill Farm Supply Inc. in Crawford County, and Buena Vista to tour the Tyson Feed Mill in Storm Lake. This is all part of Naig’s visit to all 99 counties, and he hopes to travel to more county fairs throughout the state.
