DNR Fines City Of Audubon $8,000 For Exceeding Wastewater Permit Limits

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has issued an administrative consent order to the City of Audubon for violating its National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit. This order addresses multiple effluent limit violations recorded between Sept. 1, 2019, and March 11, 2024. The city’s wastewater treatment facility documented 48 violations during this period through excess ammonia, chlorides, and suspended solids discharges. Additionally, Waspy’s Truck Wash, a significant industrial user in the area, exceeded the discharge limits outlined in its agreement with the city an estimated 529 times. The City of Audubon is required to submit a Plan of Action to the DNR detailing compliance measures and pay an $8,000 penalty for the infractions.
