During Monday night’s meeting, the Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education rejected the resolution for a bond agreement for the transportation facility approved annual contract agreements and various other bids. The board members opened a public hearing for the district to enter into a bond agreement not to exceed $16 million. Still, after much discussion and public input, the resolution was rejected on a 3-2 vote. However, board members still approved an agreement with Piper Sandler, who will serve as the financial advisor for the project, and Dorsey Whitney, the attorney. Quotes were received and approved for the following items: Fairview Elementary playground surfacing contract for $213,524, a new 15-passenger bus for $116,864, and 22 tires for buses and vehicles from Baur Built Tire and Service for $4,669. The district also received three separate bids for a seven-passenger SUV for the transportation department but decided not to proceed with any action to wait for State bids to come out and to propose a counteroffer to match that bid. Agreements were renewed with Kuemper Catholic for a four-year-old preschool and the FFA Chapter. A new training agreement was reached with Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) to allow a nursing student attending college to receive on-the-job practicum training with the district’s nursing staff. The board members finished the meeting by selecting the Iowa Association of School Boards’ proposed Legislative resolutions the district wants to focus on for the upcoming school year and updating the Emergency Operation Plan. The board members plan to meet again on Thursday at 8:15 a.m. to adopt a new resolution to enter into a new bond agreement that will lower the amount the district can borrow for the new transportation facility. Carroll Broadcasting will bring you more details on these topics in upcoming newscasts.
