Donna Rae Wanninger 85 of Carroll passed away on Monday, July 15, 2024 at her residence in Carroll surrounded by her family.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 2024 at Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. Pastor Lori Shannon of Manning United Methodist Church will officiate.  Casket Bearers will be Keaton Wanninger, Justin Mundt, Adam Funke, Cherese Schirck, Tony Hilsabeck and Steve Andersen.  Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Templeton Iowa.

Visitation will be held from 1-1:45p.m. Saturday at Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll.

Donna was born in Audubon, IA on September 23, 1938, daughter of Everett (Dutch) Hilsabeck and Naomi (Cavanaugh) Hilsabeck. Donna was baptized and attended the First Christian Church in Audubon and graduated from Audubon High School in 1956. She was united in marriage to Eddie Wanninger on September 6,1958 they made their home on the family farm outside of Gray, IA where they raised their two daughters, until the untimely death of Eddie in May of 1977.

Donna was self- employed, in the restaurant business in Gray, Manning and Lake View for many years. She then moved to Des Moines began working for the United States Postal Service and retired in 2000 and then moved back to the Carroll area to be closer to her family.

Donna enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a lady who loved life and got to enjoy many things through her Sweepstake wins.  You could find her working tirelessly decorating her entries with glitter and stickers.  Bling was her thing and she was an avid Hawkeye supporter.  She won many grand prizes including an SUV, cash prizes, vacations and fishing trips from Canada to Mexico. She also enjoyed going to the casino with her family.  Watching the Iowa Hawkeyes (especially football), Indiana Fever with Caitlin Clark, Playing euchre, gardening and canning.  She enjoyed having family and friends stop in for a visit any time of the day. Always offering them a cocktail.

Donna is survived by her two daughters and their families: Janelle (Denny) Hall of Jefferson, Joni (Kevin) Wanninger of Carroll. Five grandchildren, Cherese Schirck, of West Des Moines Haley Hall, New York City. Angel (Justin) Mundt of Manning, Keaton (Kirstan) Wanninger of Cedar Rapids, Karli (Adam) Funke of West Des Moines. Six great grandchildren: Rylan, Piper, Dawson Mundt, Bexley, Kinsley Wanninger and Amelia Funke. Brother Doug (Jan)Hilsabeck, of Gray, Marlene Wanninger of Carroll, Sister-in-Law Shirley Hilsabeck, Glidden, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dutch and Naomi, husband, Eddie Wanninger, brother Lamont Hilsabeck, sister Violet Hilsabeck, nephew Marty Hilsabeck. Brothers-in-law Walt Wanninger, John Wanninger. Sisters-in law, Norma Wanninger, Ann Hedgepath, Bertha Lingle.
