Carroll City Council To Review Ziegler, ECHO Group Developer Agreements And Plans For Burned Shelter House At Monday’s Meeting

Economic development will be the primary focus of the Carroll City Council’s upcoming meeting on Monday. The council convenes at 5:15 p.m. at Carroll City Hall on July 22. One of their first items of business is to cancel the public hearing for the Ziegler Caterpillar development agreement. City Manager Aaron Kooiker says it is important to understand this is a procedural cancellation, and Ziegler remains dedicated to building a new retail site on Carroll’s western edge.

Ziegler is expected to spend approximately $30 million building a new facility in Carroll that could create as many as 60 new jobs when operational. The council will also set a public hearing date for another development agreement, this one with ECHO Group, for a new warehouse facility on U.S. Highway 71. Kooiker says it is refreshing to see economic growth taking up so much of their agenda in recent meetings.

Kooiker adds the council will host MW Capital Group, who purchased the Fairview Village Apartments on 18th Street earlier this year, as they work to return those dilapidated buildings to the community’s housing stock.

Last month, a fire caused by a suspected lightning strike nearly destroyed the shelter house in Carroll’s Northwest Park. Kooiker says the council will need to determine what the plan to do at the site once the city’s insurance claim is processed.

Other items of note on Monday’s agenda include the adoption of a city code amendment creating standards for fence construction in town, routine end-of-fiscal-year inter-fund transfers, and committee reports. The July 22 meeting is open to the public and will be live-streamed via the city’s YouTube channel. Links to the agenda and video are included below.
