CCSD School Board Approved Of $213K Project For Fairview Playground Resurfacing

ccsd-generic-2

The Carroll Community School District’s Fairview Elementary playground will look a little different for the upcoming school year, with the resurfacing project approved during Monday’s Board of Education meeting. GameTime with Cunningham Recreation has been awarded the contract to resurface the area, replacing the woodchips with a soft, rubber surface. Superintendent Dr. Casey Berlau says the district is looking to spend just over $213,000 for this project for two main reasons.

Board member Stacy McCaulley questioned how long the rubber surface would last before needing to be replaced. Berlau says he isn’t aware of the exact numbers GameTime gave him, but he compared them to the track down at the CCSD Athletic Stadium.

The next question was whether the playground would be torn up with the potential addition to Fairview Elementary in the upcoming years as part of the district’s long-term facility plan. Berlau says the plan does not propose the addition to that side of the building.

With the approval of the contract, GameTime crews are set to begin construction within the next few weeks, with the completion of the rubber surfacing before school starts again on Aug. 23.
