Wildland Fire Assistance Grants Available For Iowa Volunteer Fire Departments

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Forestry—Fire Program, in collaboration with the U.S. Forest Service, is offering grants to support rural fire departments in combating wildfires. Applications are due by Oct. 15 and provide a 50 percent reimbursement for wildland fire equipment, with a maximum reimbursement of $4,500 per department. The grants can be used for various wildfire suppression tools, including slide-in units, hoses, nozzles, adapters, portable tanks and pumps, personal protective equipment, and communications gear. Special requests related to wildfire suppression are also considered. The DNR notes priority is given to departments that regularly submit wildland fire reports to the agency following a relevant call.
