Iowa DNC Delegates To Back VP Harris’ Bid For White House

Iowa’s delegates to the 2024 Democratic National Convention are throwing their support behind Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidential nomination. The delegates met virtually last night (Monday) and unanimously decided they plan to back Harris after President Joe Biden announced over the weekend he would not accept his party’s nomination. Iowa Democratic Party Chair Rita Hart says, “This is a historic moment for our country and for Iowans. We’ve seen a swell of support in the last 24 hours since Vice President Kamala Harris announced her campaign for the White House. Not only has Vice President Harris broken national fundraising numbers, but here in Iowa, we’ve had a substantial number of people reach out asking to volunteer.” Harris was chosen as Biden’s VP pick following the 2020 nominating process, which saw her withdraw from the race before Iowa’s first-in-the-nation caucuses. Biden’s delegates, who are now free to vote for any candidate they chose after he pulled out of the race, are coalescing around Harris, and she appears to have enough support to top the ticket for Democrats in the Nov. 5 elections.
