Regional Unemployment Increases In June IWD Report

Unemployment rates in the listening area rose in six out of seven counties from May to June, according to data released this (Tuesday) morning by Iowa Workforce Development (IWD). Carroll County recorded the lowest unemployment rate in the region at 2.2 percent, up 0.2 points from May but 0.4 points below June 2023. Audubon County followed close behind at 2.3 percent unemployment, up 0.2 points from last month and 0.1 points higher than a year ago. Greene and Guthrie counties’ unemployment rate both came in at 2.6 percent. These two counties saw minor increases from May to June, but both were improved from last year’s figures. Sac County increased 0.2 points to 3.3 percent in June, nearly a whole point higher than the prior year. Crawford County again recorded the highest rate in the area at 4.2 percent, but it was the only county to see improvement from May to June, decreasing by 0.1 points. Across the region, unemployment averaged 2.8 percent, compared to Iowa’s 2.8 seasonally adjusted rate and the national 4.1 percent figure.
