Detective George Athan Sworn In To Serve As Lake View’s New Chief Of Police

Last Friday, the City of Lake View City Council swore in George Athan to serve as the new chief of police for the Lake View Police Department. Athan says that, ever since he could remember, he wanted to be a police officer after growing up with friends of his dad’s, who were cops. His career began in Pasco County, Fla., where he worked for the sheriff’s office, first as an officer, then promoted to deputy, and then to field training officer. Athan says he worked for that department for five and a half years before moving to Iowa to be closer to his wife’s family.

Alongside his chief of police responsibilities, Athan will continue serving as the department’s K9 handler for the police dog Jimbo. Athan and K9 Jimbo have already been out and about through the Lake View Community, getting a puppicino at Houdini’s Soda Fountain and interacting with and educating the East Sac Preschool on working dogs, with more planned community engagement in the future. Athan says his career goal in law enforcement is to reach out and change people’s lives.

Athan says he is honored to serve the Lake View Police Department in this supervising role and looks forward to continue protecting and assisting the Lake View community.
