Robert Dierking of Atlantic formerly of Walnut

Robert Lee Dierking, age 90, of Walnut, Iowa, died on Monday, July 29, 2024, at Allen Place in Atlantic, Iowa. He was born November 8, 1933, in Jefferson, Iowa, to Otto Marvin and Bernita Cleone (Ritter) Dierking. He went to school in Lauren, Perry, Farlin, and Grand Junction to 8th grade. He earned his GED in 1977.

Robert was united in marriage to Izetta May Boulware on October 20, 1954. They were blessed with three daughters. He served in the Army from 1954 to 1956 before being Honorably Discharged. They lived in Boone, IA, where Robert was an auto mechanic until 1964 when he began to work in road construction. Working on the I80 interstate project brought them to Walnut, Iowa, in 1965. In 1970, Robert partnered with Darold Larsen, starting the Walnut Feedlot Cleaning business. In 1979, he went to work for Wilson Seeds and retired in 1996.

During his retirement years, he drove for Southwest Iowa Transit Co. Robert was known for his sense of humor and quick wit, which brought smiles and laughs to those around him. He achieved his pilot’s license and enjoyed sharing his love of flying by giving plane rides to family and friends.

He came to know Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized on February 12th, 1967, and was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Walnut, IA, serving in many areas. Robert and Izetta have always loved vacations and travel and were successful in visiting all 50 states.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, George and Walter, his sister Darlene (Roger) Vaugh, and daughter Bobbette.

He leaves to mourn his wife of 69 years, Izetta, and two daughters, Jody (Dan) Jackson and Deb (Mike) Martin. Five grandchildren Jason (April) Martin of Dallas, Texas and Chris Martin of Portland, Oregon, Brian Jackson, Ashley Jackson (Brian Foley), and Drew Jackson all of Omaha, Nebraska and two great-grandchildren, McKenna Martin (Mason Boucher) and Korbin Martin (Kennadi Carey), five great-great-grandchildren, Adelynn and Harleigh Jackson, Krew and Holland Boucher, and Brooks Martin, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am, Thursday, August 1, 2024, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Walnut, IA with Pastor Art Kilmer officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 am till the time of services at the church on Thursday. Following the funeral service, a lunch will be served at the church before traveling to the Scranton Township Cemetery near Scranton, IA for a burial at 2:30 pm.
