The Glidden FFA Fun Days, a time of free activities for youth and adults, is scheduled for this weekend. What started as a full day of fun for kids from the Glidden FFA Alumni turned into a partnership with many local organizations to celebrate everything the community offers residents and visitors. Dan Schoenherr, Vice President for the Glidden FFA Alumni, says that for more than 20 years, the annual celebration has become a fun weekend for individuals of all ages and continues to grow every year.
The events kick off tonight (Thursday), with the carnival downtown starting at 5:00 p.m., sponsored by the City of Glidden. Friday’s activities begin at 3:00 p.m. with the Penny Dive, the All School Reunion at 5:00 p.m., and the greased pig contest with registration at 5:30 p.m. with the pigs being released at 7:00 p.m. Schoenherr says Saturday is the main day, packed full of activities.
Fun for the adults begins at 6:00 p.m. Saturday with an adult bean bag tournament; registration opens at 5:30 p.m., with a street dance to follow with live entertainment from 2 ½ Guitars in downtown Glidden. The celebration concludes with Sunday activities of the antique tractor pull at 11:00 a.m. and the Glidden Gator Alumni Swim Meet at 2:00 p.m. The concession stands will be available with food on Friday evening and Saturday throughout the day, which Schoenherr says will help fund next year’s celebration.
All kid games and rides are free, thanks to sponsorships from the Glidden FFA Alumni and a grant from the Peace Lutheran Charities that cover the cost of the activities. Schoenherr wants to thank everyone for supporting the Glidden FFA Fun Days and looks forward to celebrating with everyone this weekend. Veronica, the FFA Fun Days’ mascot, will make her annual appearance and will be ready for the many selfies with attendees again this year. View the complete schedule of events below.
