According to the Iowa Department of Agriculture and AAA-Iowa, Iowans saw modest decreases at the pump over the past week. As of Wednesday, July 31, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $3.24, down four cents from last week and 37 cents below prices from a year ago. The national average on Wednesday was down two cents to $3.49 per gallon. In retail diesel, Iowa prices fell one cent on the week to a statewide average of $3.51, compared to $3.86 per gallon last year. The national average was 31 cents above Iowa prices at $3.82. Wholesale ethanol was unchanged from $2.16, while natural gas prices at the Henry Hub reporting site dropped nine cents to $2.06 per MMBtu.
