The City of Jefferson and the Greene County Board of Supervisors are partnering to complete a much-needed bridge replacement project, which is expected to begin here soon. The bridge crossing over the North Raccoon River on the west side of Jefferson on S. Grimmell Road has been placed in Greene County’s Five-Year Construction Program as one of the top priorities. Greene County Engineer Wade Weiss says while this project has been discussed for years and needs to be completed, it’s a challenging undertaking for the county and city.

It came down to the requirements When discussing whether to update or replace the entire bridge. Weiss says the bridge is “functionally obsolete” when meeting today’s bridge standards.

The Greene County Board of Supervisors have accepted and awarded the contract bid to Godbersen-Smith Construction Co. and Subsid. for $2,088,602. Competition of the project is expected to take a little over a year. Once the project is started, the road will be closed to all traffic; a detoured route will be announced within the next few weeks.
